Beyond OpenSees
01 Dec 2024 - Michael H. Scott
The fish bowl is full.
I have written about OpenSees, more or less weekly, for over five years. While there’s still many topics to cover, I’m starting to think about what to write beyond OpenSees.

In addition to serializing a textbook, Substack would make a good home for the non-OpenSees posts I sometimes write. The next few philosophical posts on deck are:
- Why Don’t More Engineering Professors Blog?
- Where Have All the Journal Discussions Gone?
- Let’s Innovate Less and Focus on Maintenance
These and similar posts would be skipped by readers who just want to run an IDA or get the modal damping matrix. But the posts may be of interest to a wider audience, beyond OpenSees.
I work on problems related to modeling and nonlinear structural analysis. If these problems are relevant to a current professional project, feel free to reach out.
