2024 is coming to an end, so it’s time for the obligatory review of blog stats and traffic for the year. The summary below is based on how WordPress keeps statistics.
Word Count
Published in 2024:
- 59 posts
- 30,991 words
- 525 words per post
Assuming a journal article is 10,000 words, this year’s word count translates to about three journal articles, which I believe is all one person can legitimately produce in a year. And I’m talking about one person generating content, not one person getting their name on 28 articles a year.
Traffic
Traffic in 2024:
- 20,318 visitors
- 3.48 views per visitor
Views per visitor is not exactly bounce rate, but visitors are sticking around to view three or four posts or pages in each session, as opposed to leaving after one view.
Top Posts
Views in 2024 to any post:
- How to Record Fiber Response - 1103 views
- Gimme All You Damping, All Your Mass and Stiffness Too - 913 views
- Be Careful with Modal Damping - 747 views
- How to Record Section Curvature - 690 views
- OpenSees Tcl to Python Converter - 648 views
No surprise the most viewed posts deal with recorders and damping.
What’s noteworthy is that after being the most viewed post in 2022 and 2023, “OpenSees Tcl to Python Converter” has slid down the rankings. I suspect OpenSees users have figured out that ChatGPT does a much better job of translating Tcl scripts to Python, handling variables, control structures, and procedures.
Top Countries
Views in 2024:
- United States - 14,247 views
- Italy - 4030 views
- Canada - 3886 views
- Japan - 3645 views
- India - 3529 views
Peru, China, Mexico, Turkey, and Germany round out the top 10.
Considering some of the posts are untranslatable or are difficult to understand for readers not native to the English language and/or unfamiliar with American pop culture, it’s good to see an international reach. OpenSees is a lingua franca.
