Using OpenSees as a direct object is common, e.g., “We used OpenSees to perform incremental dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete shear walls.” That sentence was declarative and OpenSees was a noun.

But OpenSees can also be a verb, in declarative and other types of sentences.

Declarative

I like to OpenSees every day.

Interrogative

Do you OpenSees every day?

Imperative

You should OpenSees every day.

Exclamatory

I love to OpenSees every day!

Conditional

If you OpenSees every day, you will grow.

Where am I going with this post? Well, this is post #365 and I wondered if I could write a post about OpenSees every day for a year. Like, after my first post on September 7, 2019, could I have reached 365 posts by September 5, 2020 (accounts for Leap Day 2020)? Or, moving forward, can I double my post count by November 2, 2025?

The answer to both of these questions is “No, not without a lot of fluff and repetition.” Some fluff is OK as long as the post refers to obscure popular culture. Some repetition is OK too–I could never post enough on how to get the damping matrix out of OpenSees. However, creating substantial new content every day would be exhausting.

But posting every day would not be as draining as reading one journal article every day. This was a collaborator’s New Year’s resolution for 2024. He stopped in March and retained his energy for other important things.
